About the Tea Artist

I am Chen Junhua, a tea artist at Chinese Tea Group and a nationally certified first-class tea taster.

Today, I would like to introduce this young and vibrant tea, one of the leading black teas on the market today.

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name “Jin Jun Mei” carries special meaning:

  • “Jin” refers to the golden-black color of the dry leaves.
  • “Jun” reflects the majestic energy of the leaves on the tea tray, like a galloping herd.
  • “Mei” describes the slender, curved shape of the leaves, resembling a lady’s finely drawn eyebrows.

Price Range and Rarity

Its price ranges from several dozen to several thousand US dollars per kilogram, a rare phenomenon in the tea industry.

This is mainly due to the distinction between the broad and narrow definitions of Jin Jun Mei Tea.

Broad Definition

  • Refers to any loose-leaf black tea made from single tender buds, regardless of growing region, tea cultivar, or production process. All of these teas can be called Jin Jun Mei Tea.
  • Large production leads to noticeable quality differences.

Narrow Definition

  • Specifically refers to tea made from fresh single buds of rare tea trees over 50 years old.
  • Grown in protected tea gardens in the Wuyi Mountains at altitudes above 1,200 meters.
  • Buds must meet strict maturity standards.
  • Processed using traditional methods including withering, tossing, fermentation, fixing, rolling, and drying.
  • Due to limited raw material and high harvesting costs, this type of Jin Jun Mei is extremely rare and highly sought after by tea connoisseurs.

  • Although it is a blend of multiple tea cultivars, all leaves are tender buds, ensuring consistent quality.

  • Photos of dry leaves and brewed tea are taken on-site at our tea house.
  • Before brewing: Dry leaves emit floral notes.
  • After brewing: Leaves release a gentle sweet potato aroma.
