Watch: Gongfu Brewing of Our Phoenix Oolong Tea - Dan Cong

Located in Guangdong’s Chaozhou region, the Phoenix Mountain area features unique volcanic rock weathered soil that nurtures exceptional Dan Cong Oolong teas.

For centuries, tea culture has flourished here — earning Chaozhou the title of “the birthplace of Gongfu Tea.”

As one of China’s four core Oolong tea regions, Phoenix Mountain is home to Dan Cong trees that are over a hundred years old.

Using the traditional semi-fermentation process, these loose-leaf Oolongs are celebrated for their outstanding quality and rich aromatic depth.

Tea Variety and Growing Conditions

This Tea Sachets Series Phoenix Oolong is crafted from the Mi Lan Xiang (Honey Orchid) Dan Cong variety, grown at an elevation of 900 meters.

The significant diurnal temperature shifts and frequent mountain mists create ideal conditions for the tea trees to grow slowly and develop a higher concentration of natural aromatic compounds and nutrients.

Harvest and Procurement Process

Each spring (March to April), our tea specialists assess the year’s climate conditions to determine quality and plan procurement.

In years of drought or cooler temperatures, when the tea quality reaches its peak, we increase our purchasing volume.

These teas are not only sold fresh but also prized for their exceptional aging potential.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Following traditional local craftsmanship, the teas undergo multiple rounds of roasting and resting (annealing).

Once the entire process is complete, the finished tea is typically released around October.

Packaging and Distribution

Among the finished teas:

  • Part is supplied in large packages to our physical teahouses — beloved by local tea connoisseurs for their classic flavor.
  • Another portion is packaged into 8-gram individually packed Gongfu Tea Sachets (Chinese Tea Bags).

Available through the Chinese Tea Group Online Store, these individually packed tea bags allow tea lovers worldwide to:
