This classic Rou Gui tea, also known as Cinnamon Oolong, comes from Wuyi Mountain in Fujian Province, China—a UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for both its natural and cultural significance.

Unique Terroir and “Rock Essence”

As a renowned Chinese oolong, the tea trees grow in red, mineral-rich sandy soil formed from weathered rocks.

This unique environment not only supports the healthy growth of the tea trees but also imparts the distinctive “rock essence” to the leaves, defining the character of Rou Gui Wuyi Rock Oolong Tea.

Historical Significance

Over 1,200 years ago, Lu Yu wrote in The Classic of Tea: “The finest tea grows in weathered rocks.”

His insight perfectly reflects the unique terroir of Wuyi Mountain, ideal for producing high-quality rock oolong tea.

Sourcing and Early Character

Five years ago, we sourced this batch directly from local farmers.

At the time, the tea liquor was slightly astringent with a hint of bitterness, but the leaves were well-roasted and full of vitality, making them perfect for developing a smooth, aged character over time.

Aging and Roasting Process

After four years of natural aging and multiple rounds of artisan roasting, this batch of Rou Gui Oolong Tea was offered for tasting and purchase at our tea house in 2024. By then, the tea already delivered a mellow, smooth liquor with a refined and lasting aroma.

Since then, the tea has continued to mature, reaching five years of total aging. Its exceptional, full-bodied character has been unanimously recognized by multiple tea masters from the Chinese Tea Group.

Appearance and Flavor Profile

Our Rou Gui Wuyi Rock Oolong Tea (Cinnamon) - 2020 Classic features tightly twisted leaves with a deep, glossy color—a testament to its careful processing and ongoing five-year aging journey.

The liquor is remarkably smooth and full-bodied, with lasting sweetness and a pronounced, layered aroma, making it a top choice among aged oolong teas.
