2019 Teng Tiao Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake

Teng Tiao Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake is a unique handcrafted Pu-erh tea. It is created through the perfect combination of the natural growing environment of Yunnan large-leaf ancient tea trees and the traditional craftsmanship of local tea farmers.

The name “Teng Tiao” comes from the shape of the tea tree. Its branches are long and slender, the leaves sparse, and the trunk clearly visible, resembling long vines.

Our 2019 Teng Tiao Ancient Tree Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake is made from leaves harvested from ancient trees approximately 200 years old. These wild tea trees were discovered by farmers clearing land in 2003.

Traditional Craftsmanship

This handcrafted Teng Tiao Raw Pu-erh Tea is cultivated using a traditional method passed down since the Qing Dynasty. Side branches and excess leaves are pruned, leaving only the top buds and a few tender leaves.

This method allows nutrients to concentrate in the remaining buds, producing fuller, thicker, and richer leaves.

The low-yield, high-quality cultivation results in trees with slender trunks, dense branches, and sparse leaves that sway gracefully in the wind, resembling elegant willow trees.

For this reason, the trees are affectionately called “Dancing Tea” by the farmers.

The tea leaves are harvested in spring, the season when Pu-erh tea reaches its peak quality.

They are processed using traditional Chinese Pu-erh tea-making techniques, including withering, rolling, sun-drying, pan-firing, and pressing into tea cakes.

These meticulous steps preserve the natural essence and rich flavors of the tea, creating a handcrafted Yunnan tea of exceptional quality.

After six years of clean storage and aging, this 2019 Teng Tiao Ancient Tree Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake displays a glossy, oily sheen.
