This loose leaf Pu-erh tea is a raw tea (Sheng Pu'er), made from Yunnan large-leaf sun-dried Maocha (Dayezhong sha-qing mao-cha) and produced without artificial pile-fermentation.

It was harvested in Spring 2022 from Bing Dao Village (literally “Ice Island”), Mengku Town, Shuangjiang County, Lincang, Yunnan, China.

As a premier Pu-erh tea producing region, Bing Dao Village is divided into five hamlets, which are naturally separated into East and West Hills by the Nanmeng River, facing each other. The valley microclimate created by the river encourages the accumulation of flavor compounds in the tea leaves. Differences in slope orientation mean that the tea trees on the East and West Hills receive varying sunlight, temperatures, and hours of daylight, resulting in the distinctive flavors of Pu-erh teas from the five hamlets.

Raw Material Blending

Loose Leaf Raw Pu-erh Tea - 2022 Bing Dao is blended from leaves sourced across all five hamlets, combining the strengths of both East and West slopes to form a unique and balanced flavor profile.

Dry Tea Appearance & Aroma

As seen in product photos from Chinese Tea Group’s stores:

  • Color: Dark green with hints of brown and gray
  • Leaf Shape: Plump and elongated, with fine downy hairs to the touch
  • Aroma: Up close, it offers a fresh tea fragrance reminiscent of sun-dried green tea, along with notes of dried fruits, subtle honey sweetness, and the crisp freshness of forest herbs

Storage & Ageing

Having been stored in a dry warehouse in Kunming, this is a true dry-stored tea, which ages more slowly than teas stored in Guangdong. As a result, it is still considered a young tea, less than five years old.

Tasting & Brewing

When brewed in a gongfu gaiwan, the tea liquor evolves as follows:

Infusions 1–3

  • Tea Liquor: Clear
  • Aroma: Pronounced floral and fruity notes
  • Characteristics: Fine tea hairs floating in the liquor are a hallmark of high-grade spring tea

Infusions 4–7

  • Bitterness: Very mild, melting on the palate
  • Tea Liquor: Quickly turns to a distinct honey aroma
  • Characteristics: The tea begins to reveal a sweet, smooth underlying texture

Infusions 8–10

  • Tea Liquor: Becomes even softer
  • Aroma: Honey sweetness becomes clear and long-lasting
  • Taste: Leaves a lingering, pleasant finish

Flavor & Character

Loose Leaf Raw Pu-erh Tea - 2022 Bing Dao is elegant and refined, with a vibrant Qi (tea energy) and a lingering finish. After drinking, it leaves a long-lasting mouthwatering sensation and a sweet, pleasant throat finish, fully showcasing the terroir of Bing Dao and the master blender’s craftsmanship.
