Lapsang Souchong (Chinese name: Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) is revered as the ancestor of black tea and is considered the oldest black tea in the world. It originated in the mid-16th century in the pristine Wuyi Mountain region of Fujian, China, where this historic tea has been nurtured for centuries.
The name “Zhengshan Xiaozhong” tells a story in itself:
In China, it is called “red tea” because both the brewed leaves and tea liquor appear red; internationally, it is known as “black tea” due to the dark color of the dried leaves.
Lapsang Souchong (Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) is crafted using a unique production process. Key steps include:
Pinewood smoking was originally introduced to help preserve the tea for long-distance transport, giving it its signature smoky aroma.
Our Lapsang Souchong Black Tea (Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) comes from its authentic origin.
