2019 Wilds Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake

This 2019 Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake was meticulously crafted by the Chinese Tea Group in collaboration with local tea farmers in the Mengku region of Shuangjiang County, Lincang, Yunnan. The tea cake is a carefully blended selection of spring buds harvested from 30- to 50-year-old ancient tea trees. Owing to its bold and untamed flavor profile, it was named “Wilds” — a tribute to the raw wilderness it embodies.

Origin & Region

The Lincang tea-growing region accounts for one-third of Yunnan’s total tea production and is honored as “China’s Tea Granary.”

Within this region, Mengku stands out as a premier Pu-erh tea-producing area, known as “the homeland of ancient tea trees.” Over one million ancient tea trees grow here, many over a hundred years old, with the oldest dating back more than 2,700 years.

The unique climate and soil of Mengku foster the cultivation of high-quality Pu-erh tea. Generations of devoted tea farmers practice chemical-free, eco-friendly farming, avoiding soil pollution and harm to the trees. They treat the tea gardens as a precious heritage, carefully preserving them for future generations.

Tea Variety & Cultivar

This combination of human dedication and natural blessings gave rise to the Mengku large-leaf varietal (Da Ye Zhong), a key cultivar used in the production of premium Yunnan Pu-erh tea.

This cultivar is renowned for producing bold, full-bodied Pu-erh with layered aromas and enduring flavor.

Sustainable Partnerships

We have established strong partnerships and deep friendships with tea farmers from multiple villages in Mengku, reserving a set quantity of spring tea each year to ensure a stable and sustainable supply of aged Pu-erh tea.

These teas are carefully stored in the Chinese Tea Group’s professional storage and aging facilities. By maintaining these careful practices, we bring the spirit of traditional, physical tea houses to the world.

Tasting Notes & Brewing

After six years of natural aging, the 2019 Wilds Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake offers layered aromas and a smooth, full-bodied liquor. Its flavor is sweet, rich, and marked by an enduring wild character.

This high-quality Pu-erh tea can be steeped over twenty times. Even after the fifteenth infusion, the tea retains clarity and sweetness — a hallmark of premium Mengku Pu-erh.

Organic & Chemical-Free Assurance

We assure you that no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides were used in the cultivation or production of this Pu-erh tea.

Experience

Every sip of the 2019 Wilds Pu-erh Tea Cake is a gift from nature and a testament to generations of dedicated tea artisans.

A Note on Packaging

  • All aged teas from Chinese Tea Group come in their original packaging.
  • We conduct quarterly inspections and turn over the tea cakes to ensure even aging and quality. As a result, the cotton wrappers may naturally develop creases or slight wear.
  • The yellow spots on the cotton paper are tea oil marks, formed as the tea’s internal compounds naturally seep through during the aging process.

These external packaging phenomena may occur, but they are not flaws. They are genuine traces left by the passage of time and serve as an external testament to the careful, patient aging of Pu-erh tea.
