This raw Pu-erh tea comes from broad-leaf tea trees grown in Yunnan in 2018. Unlike traditional 357g cakes, it is handcrafted into charming 10g mini cakes.
Our tea masters originally sourced this batch from a small, family-run garden in a remote mountainous area of Xishuangbanna. At that time, the leaves were still in their most original form—mao cha (unpressed loose raw leaves).
2018 Yunnan Raw Pu-erh Tea Mini Cake – Handcrafted raw Pu-erh from Yunnan’s mountain tea gardens. Rich in aroma and bold character, these mini cakes offer a convenient way to enjoy authentic sheng Pu-erh with aging potential.
The mao cha was carefully wok-fired with precise heat control to thoroughly remove grassy bitterness. Upon first tasting, the liquor was lively and vibrant, rich with wild mountain aroma, well-balanced in flavor, and sweet with a lasting finish, showing excellent aging potential.
Chinese Tea Group acquired a total of 70 kilograms of this raw tea material. Initially, the tea was slightly astringent, and the liquor lacked roundness. It was quietly stored in a warehouse within the tea garden, allowing it to age naturally and gradually complete its first stage of transformation.
After seven years of aging, this raw (sheng) Pu-erh has shed its initial astringency and matured. It successfully passed through the common 3 to 5-year “awkward phase,” during which many Pu-erh teas lose aroma and flavor. Now, the liquor is strong and mellow, with a rich taste complemented by delicate floral and fruity notes.
In 2021, these teas were handcrafted into mini tea cakes about 4 cm in diameter and weighing approximately 10 grams each. The cakes come without any commercial packaging, perfectly reflecting the true essence of time and mountain terroir.
A special groove is designed in the center of each cake, allowing tea lovers who prefer a lighter taste to split one cake into two infusions. This makes it easy to control the liquor strength and enjoy layered flavor variations.
