2009 Yiwu Gua Feng Zhai Raw Pu'er Tea Cake (also known as pu-erh tea) is a premium tea from the southernmost part of Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province — the Yiwu Mountain Range. Gua Feng Zhai is situated in the eastern part of this renowned tea-growing region, within a tropical rainforest at elevations between 1,200 and 1,400 meters.

This village enjoys a warm, humid climate with abundant rainfall year-round, creating an ideal environment for tea trees. The significant temperature difference between day and night enhances the accumulation of nutrients in the leaves, contributing to the unique flavor of this raw pu-erh.

2009 Yiwu Gua Feng Zhai Raw Pu'er Tea Cake

Sourced from this prestigious region, our aged (2009) raw Pu'er tea cake features plump, full leaves with tender buds. The tea cake is smooth, with an oily surface and consistent density. Weighing approximately 357 grams, it adheres to the traditional Pu'er tea standard.

This weight specification comes from historical trade practices and is now a hallmark of authentic Pu'er tea. Seven cakes, known as "Qizi Bing" or "Seven Sons Cake," are typically bundled together, totaling 2.5 kilograms. This standardization simplifies storage and embodies the deep cultural heritage of Pu'er tea.

After 16 years of aging, this tea has developed a delicate, long-lasting flavor. The tea broth carries a unique, primal forest aroma from the Yiwu region—bold and expansive. Its smooth texture reveals a potent tea energy (cha qi).

If you're new to raw tea cakes or don't have the right tools for opening compressed tea, you may need a tea needle (also known as a tea knife). It's an essential and enjoyable part of the traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
