This raw Pu-erh tea cake was crafted by Chinese Tea Group in the spring of 2019, in collaboration with local tea farmers in the Mengku region of Shuangjiang County, Lincang, Yunnan. It is a carefully blended selection of spring buds harvested from 30- to 50-year-old mature tea trees. Owing to its bold, untamed flavor profile, it was named “Wilds” — a tribute to the raw wilderness it embodies.

The Lincang tea-growing region produces one-third of all tea in Yunnan and is honored as “China’s Tea Granary.” Within it, Mengku stands out as a premier terroir, known as “the homeland of ancient tea trees.” This region is home to over one million tea trees, many of which are at least 100 years old, with the oldest dating back over 2,700 years.

Mengku’s ideal climate and soil conditions are sustained by generations of tea farmers who have carefully tended the land. Practicing chemical-free, eco-friendly farming, they avoid polluting the soil or harming the trees, treating both as sacred heritage, passed down from their ancestors and preserved for future generations.

It is this blend of human dedication and natural blessing that gave rise to the Mengku large-leaf varietal (Da Ye Zhong), a key cultivar in the production of premium Yunnan Pu-erh.

We have established strong partnerships and deep friendships with tea farmers from multiple villages in this region, reserving a set quantity of spring tea each year to ensure a steady and sustainable supply of aged Pu-erh. These teas are carefully stored in the Chinese Tea Group’s professional storage and aging facilities. This trust and commitment allow us to bring the spirit of traditional, physical tea houses to the world.

After six years of natural aging, the 2019 Wilds Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake delivers layered aromatics, a smooth liquor, and a sweet, full-bodied taste marked by an enduring wild character. It can be steeped more than 20 times, retaining clarity and sweetness even after the 15th infusion — a hallmark of high-quality Pu-erh.

We promise: No chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides were used in the growing or production of this tea.

Every sip is a gift of nature and a testament to generations of care.
