Authentic 2020 Wan Gong Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake from Yiwu, Yunnan

This is a sample of the 2020 Wan Gong raw Pu-erh tea cake, from Yiwu’s Wan Gong tea mountain in Yunnan. The material comes from trees grown in a forest environment at approximately 1,400–1,700 meters elevation, with an estimated age of 50–100 years.

This sample is offered as a way to taste the tea in its current state, without the commitment of a full cake.

Characteristics

The tea is tightly pressed, with intact leaves and visible buds. After a few years of natural aging, it shows early softening while retaining structure and clarity in the leaf material. It brews cleanly over multiple infusions and is easy to break apart for testing.

Flavor

The liquor is clear and yellow. The profile is straightforward: light floral notes, soft honey-like sweetness, and a mild fruit tone. Bitterness is low and fades quickly, leaving a gentle sweetness in the mouth.

Aging Potential

This tea is still in an early stage of development. It has room to evolve, with the structure to support further aging. Over time, it is expected to soften and gain depth.

Note

All Pu-erh tea cake samples are hand-picked from full tea cakes. They are intended for tasting and comparison, and are suitable for those who want to understand the character of Wan Gong tea before committing to a full cake.

Gongfu Tea Brewing Guide

(Traditional Method)

Always rinse tea before the first infusion. For compressed teas, adjust the rinsing time according to the compression level, allowing the leaves to gently loosen before the first infusion.

Water Temperature 100°C (212°F)
Tea-to-Water Ratio 8g tea per 160ml water
Steeping Time
Brews 1–5 Steep for 5–10 sec
Brews 6–10 Steep for 11–18 sec
Brews 11–15 Steep for 20–30 sec
Brews 16+ Steep for 30+ sec

Tips: Tea masters recommend steeping times based on each tea's unique flavor, starting the timer after pouring the water.

Common Brewing Guide

(Easy Everyday Preparation)

Water Temperature 100°C (212°F)
Leaf-to-Water Ratio 2g per 100ml
Steeping Time About 1–2 minutes
Subsequent Infusions Increase by 30 seconds each time

Tips: You can adjust the steeping time or leaf-to-water ratio to suit your taste—shorten the infusion for a lighter brew or extend it for a stronger one.
